This proposal is for a Temporary change to the notified airspace design, for which a scaled airspace change process applies and a change level is not applicable.
Several UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) Companies have contacted Land's End and St. Mary's Airport's with a view to conducting trial UAS flights between these two points. Under the current regulatory requirements, these flights require a segregated volume of airspace between the ATZ's of both Airports. The proposed Temporary Danger Area (TDA) would allow for temporary segregation between UAS's and other air traffic within the existing Land's End Transit Corridor. Land's End and St. Mary's ATC Units provide the ATS within the existing Land's End Transit Corridor and, using well established channels, would liaise with all regular users and stakeholders prior to TDA activation. These trial flights aim to; demonstrate that a viable commercial operation is possible, show that UAS flights will provide an alternative affordable method of transport for freight, ultimately provide an operation that can be safely conducted alongside existing manned services, gather real data to support a safety case for permanent operations and ultimately create investment and jobs in Cornwall.
