This proposal is for a Temporary change to the notified airspace design, for which a scaled airspace change process applies and a change level is not applicable.
Skyfarer Ltd, the airspace change sponsor, is seeking a temporary airspace change - a Temporary Danger Area (TDA) in order to facilitate UAV BVLOS demonstration flights. These would occur during a limited number of TDA activation periods spread over a 90-day period commencing early June 2022.
The aims are two-fold:
a) To progress the operational capability of drone technology into a logistical use case specifically for medical delivery in association with the NHS.
b) To progress the operational capability of drone technology into use cases specifically related to policing activities in conjunction with the West Midlands Police (WMP).
Current regulations mandate that BVLOS operations must be conducted within ‘Segregated Airspace’ unless the drone is equipped with an approved detect and avoid (DAA) capability. There are currently no CAA approved solutions available for DAA therefore, Skyfarer wish to make an application for a temporary danger area (TDA) for the purpose of providing an appropriate operating environment in order to conduct these trials.
