Airspace change ID: ACP-2018-85
This proposal is for a Permanent airspace change, and is level TBC.
This ACP has been paused whilst we consider the implications of both the Court of Appeal’s judgement on Heathrow Expansion and the unprecedented impacts of the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
This step has been started
During the Develop & Assess Step, the change sponsor develops one or more options that address the Statement of Need and align with the defined design principles.
The current Compton (CPT) 4K/5J Standard Instrument Departures (SID)s from Runways 09L/R have not been flown for over 30 years. As the number of flights using Heathrow Airport increased, the route became challenging to manage because of its proximity to the Ockham holding stack and the Heathrow Airport arrival flow to the south of the airport. NATS air traffic controllers have been required to manually direct aircraft on this route to separate them from the stream of arrivals making their way from the holding stacks. The procedure remains in operation and published in local air traffic control procedures as a trial.
Heathrow are planning to design new Compton SIDs from runways runways 09L and 09R so that aircraft can fly without the need for routine controller intervention from the southerly holding stacks to the airport.
This is the area which may be affected by this airspace change depending on its development. This area may change as the proposal is developed.
The consultation has not yet started for this airspace change.
